CHAPTER 2 QUESTIONS: The Hunger Games

How does Katniss save her sister from the reaping?

Katniss saves her sister from the reaping by volunteering herself as tribute, which hasn't happened in a long time.
So, everybody "touches three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and held it out to her".
It was a little weird because they only do that at funerals or when they are saying goodbye to a loved one.
2. Who is the boy tribute selected? How did he save Katniss life when she was 11?
the boy tribute selected for the hunger games was peeta mellark. he goes to her school. The way he saved her was when she was 11 and she was almost dying of hunger.
Then peetas mother told him to give the burn bread to the pigs.
Even though he new he would get beaten up he gave it to katniss and that bread gave her hope to move on and she went with her family and ate the burned bread.
"in his arms,he carried two large loaves of bread that must have fallen into the fire because the crusts were scorched black."
3. What kind of person do you think Peeta is? What evidence from the book led you to come to this conclusion?
i think that peeta is a very kind and caring boy who helps and gives.
4. Why does seeing the dandelion after her father's death give Katniss hope?
When she saw the dandelion, Katniss gained hope. She remembered all the things her dad taught her about hunting. She could hunt things down for food.
She could gather things for trade.
Also, she was going to get a tesserae in order to get grain and oil in March 8th
because he gave bread to katniss when she really needed it was what made me come with this conclusion of peetas way.
Quotes"But, in district 12, where the word is synonymous with the word corpse, volunteers are all but extinct."
"Starvation's not an uncommon fate in district 12."
"I thought of the hours spent in the woods with my father and I knew how we were going to survive."
"Of course, the odds have not been dependable of late."
